Years have passed by and along with the increasing cautions of the world coming to an end, there is always a silver lining of keeping the planet clean; as it is the only thing that could save dying lives. Global Handwashing Day is a way of putting emphasis on this major concern.
Every year, millions of children have made their bodies a storehouse of germs and don’t even know what the term “hygiene” actually means. It’s a shame to see our country have instances like these where the ‘future of tomorrow’ have to live with germs and unwanted infections and diseases. Very often we hear stories of great people and how they were able to become powerful but went through immense poverty, failure and hardships. These stories make them idols and mark their hard work and heroism. But how often have we come across people who are known for keeping themselves clean, organised and well-maintained?
It’s public, but has to come from within…
“I come from a poor family, I have seen poverty. The poor need respect, and it begins with cleanliness.”- Narendra Modi
…said by one man alone and not as a representative of the government shows that when it comes to health and hygiene, the government cannot help you personally. They may strive to make you aware of the grave dangers and necessities for a sustainable future by carrying out legitimate programs and drives for the same. But at the end of it, it’s a choice that one has to make regardless of the excuses and obstacles one faces.
Yes, ideally speaking, poverty is the root cause of a lot of issues. It restricts the chances of getting educated but most importantly, it limits the human body from being clean and spreading it throughout society. As a developing country, it’s often the responsibility of the privileged to lend a helping hand to the poor or less fortunate. And as an extension of awareness, every year the country celebrates Global Hand Washing Day! This year, the theme marks, ‘Our Hands, our future’ as a reminder for us to wash our hands to not only protect our own self but also pave way for building our own futures that could benefit the world in prospering and emerging as a hygienic storehouse of development and success.
Global Handwashing Day gives a chance to allow young, growing children to wash their hands with soap and clean themselves. The purpose of this day is to create awareness of the number of improving possibilities that it holds such as education for children, protection of health of patients, communities and reduce inequities. A number of benefits from this day make for a sustainable environment that would foster a future that reveals never-ending results of an embassy of a clean and sanitized country.
Grave creators in disguise
We do not realise the possible conditions that allow germs to spread; holding a bus handle, turning doorknobs, using elevators, pressing buttons, keeping your bags on the floor and then using it on your shoulder after that, sneezing/coughing, touching items on the desk of your workplace, handling money, etc. A number of non-identifiable things can spread the most amounts of germs especially in a country like India that is over-crowded and filled with people all around. Public transport may be a great source of a good economy and an affordable travel asset that makes life so much easier, but it is definitely an excellent manner to contract undue germs and rare infections or diseases.
Importance of cleanliness: Global Hand washing Day!
“Cleanliness may be defined to be the emblem of purity of mind.”- Joseph Addison
Cleanliness refers to the cleanliness of the body, mind and soul. These three elements are entangled in a very careful manner and together can pave way for a healthy lifestyle and healthy society. A pure body makes way for cleaner thoughts, use of cleaner methods and adopting ideas that creatively involve the betterment of others. This leads oneself to realise the impact it generates and purifies one’s soul with the contentment of doing a good deed.
“Don’t call the world dirty because you forgot to clean your glasses.”- Aaron Hill
Everything starts with you, your ideologies of cleanliness, your processing of ideas and your view towards changing the society embedded in this massacre of germs!
Happy Global Hand Washing Day!
